What is the difference between 14K Gold Plated and 14K Gold Vermeil?

First, Gold Plated and Gold Vermeil jewelry both contain real gold as the top layer. Rather than using pure gold, utilizing a metal like brass or sterling silver as a base creates a gold look at a much more affordable price point. The primary differences between Gold Plated and Gold Vermeil jewelry centers on the base metal used and the thickness of the real gold coating.

In Gold Plated jewelry, a thin gold layer is applied on top of a more affordable base metal, such as brass. An electric current is applied to bond the gold to the base metal. Our Gold Plated jewelry contains a 0.5 micron thick 14K plating.

To be classified as Gold Vermeil, the base metal must be Sterling Silver, and the gold coating layer must be a minimum of 2.5 microns thick. Due to its thicker gold layer, Gold Vermeil will always be more durable than Gold Plated jewelry and will likely last longer.

However, both metal finishes are great options at their respective price points, and both can look beautiful with proper care.

What if I don't see my team colors?

What if my crystal color doesn't perfectly match my team's color?

Our Austrian crystals come in many different color options, but let's face it, the only two 100% match options are probably Crystal Clear and Jet Black. In most cases, we think you'll be able to find a crystal color option that reasonably resembles your team's colors. What if I don't see my sport?

As we mentioned, we believe everyone deserves stylish team spirit accessories and do our best to offer a variety of designs. Plus, our collections are constantly evolving!

How do I best care for my jewelry?

General Care

  • Avoid unnecessary contact with moisture and chemicals, which could accelerate tarnishing ~ ensure lotions and perfumes are dry before putting on jewelry
  • After wearing, gently clean your jewelry pieces with a soft, non-abrasive cloth to remove smudges and surface dirt
  • Store each piece in its individual plastic bag to avoid two pieces rubbing together, which could scratch or damage the metals and gold plating
  • Store both plastic bags in your JC jewelry pouch for further protection
  • The anti-tarnish squares supplied within the plastic bags are made in the USA and neutralize gases that could contribute to tarnishing for up to 12 months
  • Taking a little time to invest in your pieces' care will help extend their lifetime!

Sterling Silver 

  • We use Sterling Silver for its durability ~ pure silver is soft, which allows it to be easily damaged and not suitable for routine use
  • Sterling Silver will tarnish over time and with environmental exposure, but your pieces can look like new with proper storage and gentle cleaning with a polishing cloth
  • It is best to avoid liquid contact in general, but be certain to remove your jewelry before showering or swimming as chlorine can change the color of the silver

Gold Plated Brass

  • Gold Plated Brass adds strength and is an economic way to get a gold look, but it is also the least forgiving to improper wearing and storage ~ protect your pieces to extend their life!
  • Avoid unnecessary moisture and chemical contact ~ smart guidance is to make your jewelry the last thing you put on
  • Even oils from our skin can gradually degrade the plating, so best practice is to handle your earrings by the hooks as much as possible, rather than the pendant
  • Gently wipe gold plated pieces clean using a soft, clean cloth, but do not use a polishing cloth as that could strip away the plating
  • Take care to store individual pieces in their own plastic bag to protect the plating from rubbing and scratching
  • Store both plastic bags in your JC jewelry pouch for further protection

Gold Vermeil

  • Gold Vermeil is a more durable gold option with a thicker 2.5 micron gold plating over a silver base metal ~ the more gold used, the less likely a gold plated piece will tarnish
  • Despite its enhanced durability, we recommend continuing to protect your investment in our gold vermeil pieces by avoiding unnecessary moisture and chemical contact, including lotions, perfumes, showering, and swimming
  • Gently wipe gold plated pieces clean using a soft, clean cloth, but do not use a polishing cloth as that could strip away the plating

Manufacturing, Shipping, & Returns

Are your products made in the USA?

The most prominent part of our designs, our signature metal pendants, are designed in our Houston studio and manufactured by our production partner in New York. We like to say that we support Team USA both on and off the playing field!

Our Austrian crystals are sourced from the EU, and some of our small components are sourced globally with preference to USA suppliers.

How soon will my jewelry ship?

All of our products are made-to-order, so please approximately 4 to 6 weeks for production. If you need your pieces quicker, reach out to us at hello@jencampana.com to check availability for rush orders ~ we will do our best to work with you.

If your piece is available in our limited on-hand stock, your jewelry will ship out quicker. 

How will my jewelry ship?

Orders ship via USPS Priority Mail with tracking information and delivery to most USA domestic locations within 1-3 business days. You will receive an email with tracking information once your order ships.

Do you ship outside of the USA?

No international shipping is currently available, but if you like our products outside of the USA, please reach out to us via hello@jencampana.com ~ we will try to work with you!

Do you accept returns?

Since our products are custom and made-to-order, we do not accept returns at this time. 

As a small business, however, customer satisfaction is of the utmost importance to us. If you are unhappy with your order, please reach out to us at hello@jencampana.com, and we will do everything we can to work with you.
